SUMMARY:ReThinking Weeds Workshop - June 11\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:Pondera County Conservation District (PCCD) is partnering with NRCS and Rocky Mountain Front Ranchlands Group to bring soil health expert Patti Armbrister to town. A resident of Hinsdale\, MT\, Armbrister has been recognized by the National Association of Conservation Districts as Montana’s Soil Health Champion. Armbrister describes her approach as “working with nature to improve our soils\, lands\, and lives.” \nThe ReThinking Weeds Workshop will take place on Thursday\, June 11 in Dupuyer\, MT. As the name suggests\, the presentation will focus not simply on eliminating weeds\, but rather on looking at the bigger picture. Why do weeds grow where they do? What might they reveal about the soil? By better understanding the weeds they are battling\, producers can work with nature to address the root cause\, reduce dependence on herbicides\, and begin to transform the soil that their crops\, livestock\, and communities depend on. \nRegistration for this free workshop begins at 11:15 AM at the Dupuyer Community Hall. The presentation will begin at 11:30. In addition to Armbrister’s talk\, participants can look forward to lunch and outdoor time spent looking at soil and weeds in their context. Armbrister will discuss practical steps to take for a few of the most troublesome weeds for local producers. The event will conclude around 3:30 PM. The Pondera County Weed District is applying for pesticide applicator credits for the event. \nWhile the workshop is designed with farmers and ranchers in mind\, the general public is welcome to attend. Attendees should come prepared to be outside in the weather for a portion of the day. While outdoors\, a few benches will be available\, but some people may wish to bring lawn chairs. For more info\, contact the Pondera County Conservation District at ponderacd@gmail.com. For info about the pesticide applicator credits\, contact the Weed District at (406)271-5672 or weeds@ponderacountymt.gov.
